ABOUT THE BAND
Formed: 1981
Former Members: Terry Glaze (stage name: Terrence Lee) was
was their last vocalist before Anselmo joined the band.
Brief History: Based in Dallas, Texas, they (with original
vocalist Terrence Lee) started around the same time as many other
hair bands from that time. Unlike all the others who died away and
and returned on those nostalgic package tours, Pantera beefed up
their earlier glam-metal sound and only perfected thier craft
through endless stretches of touring. Thier direction toward
grindcore was cemented by the introduction of Anselmo in 1998.
Influences: Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Kiss, Judas Priest,
Van Halen
Name: Their original title was Pantego, after the suburb
outside Dallas where thier studio is located; thier current
moniker is Spanish for "panther"
Sound: power grooves in the '80s, but in the '90s,
grindcore
Opened For: Exodus, Suicidal Tendencies, Ozzy Osbourne,
Kiss, Judas Priest, Skid Row, White Zombie
Supported By: Coal Chamber, Machinehead, Type O Negative,
